DPRA was retained by NAN to facilitate a workshop in order to bring together representatives from across the Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) with a mandate and interest in Resources and Economic Development. The workshop had the dual purposes of (1) discussing and planning a strategy for better developing the NAN region's economy and natural resources. This strategy will produce a clear, unified vision for the NAN territory's economic future; and (2) to prepare a plan that NAN can use to organize itself politically to lobby the Ontario government on resource revenue sharing. During the workshop, participants provided advice to guide NAN in developing a resource and economic development strategy. Based of the results of the working group discussions, participants provided specific advice in the areas of key elements of an economic development framework; and a strategy for ensuring resource revenue sharing.
