Government of Mexico/World Bank - A Study on Cost-Effective Policy Options for Hazardous Waste Management in the Northern Border Area of Mexico
DPRA completed a study for the World Bank and the Government of Mexico; these organizations are collaborating to undertake a comprehensive institutional strengthening and environmental management program in the Northern Border Area of Mexico. This study analyzed the generation of hazardous waste in the region, assessed alternative policy options, and recommended cost-effective policies for its management. A set of policy tools including regulatory, market-based and voluntary and suasive instruments were recommended for better waste management programs in Mexico. In the process of study, DPRA analyzed the institutional arrangement among various governmental agencies concerned with the environment, and also facilitated the communication between government agencies and concerned industries. DPRA was also responsible for the socio-economic impact assessment component of the study.
