DPRA is the lead consultant helping to develop the Environmental Strategic Plan (ESP) with the Town of Oakville. The ESP will outline targets, measurable goals and the means to achieve environmental protection and improvement throughout the whole of the geographic area of the Town. DPRA has retained six environmental consulting firms to provide specialised expertise in the following areas: climate change, interactive communications strategies, fisheries, natural heritage, water resources and sustainable transportation

The process to develop the ESP has included thorough background research on current environmental initiatives in Oakville, collection of searchable best practices in environmental sustainability from around the world, and the development of a Council-approved Task Force to guide the development of the ESP. The cornerstone of the Environmental Strategic Plan is extensive community consultation and input from a cross-section of stakeholders. Examples of public consultation associated with the ESP include: a community attitudes survey to gauge residents' impressions of their environment, an informative website with the ability for residents to provide comments, frequent newsletters, workshops and open houses.
