DPRA (formerly, IER) was contracted by the Kashechewan First Nation on the shores of James Bay in Ontario to develop a community map and planning tool. IER purchased an IRS 5-meter resolution panchromatic satellite image for the Kashechewan area. Using the 1:50:000 scale airphoto mosaic, the satellite image was georeferenced and orthorectified.

Subsequently, major features (rivers, islands, lakes, ponds, roads) within the Kashechewan region were digitized from the image to produce a base map for the community mapping project. This map provided the backbone for the development of new maps, previously unavailable, for community planning and management and natural resources management within the First Nation.
