Hazardous Waste Information Network (HWIN)
DPRA designed and built the Hazardous Waste Information Network (HWIN) for the Ontario Ministry of the Environment in 2001. HWIN is the first hazardous waste electronic manifest system in North America. The on-line application was successfully built within a tight time frame and users were able to register on-line beginning on January 2, 2002. HWIN, which serves the business needs of almost 20,000 generators, carriers, and receivers, enables users to create, process, and pay for electronic manifests over the web.
HWIN incorporates the latest web-based technology including web workflow and Internet forms in a 24/7 high security environment. In addition to its manifest transaction features, HWIN serves as an implementing tool for the Ministry of Environment's new rule, Regulation 347. HWIN was designed to allow generators to pay manifest and tonnage charges securely on a real-time transactional basis. In 2003, HWIN was honoured to receive an Award of Excellence at the Ontario Showcase exhibition for Organizational Transformation.
