DPRA’s experienced auditors have performed multi-media environmental compliance audits at hundreds of facilities located in some 30 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. We are able to quickly identify variations in state and local requirements and to approach each facility with a fresh set of eyes while applying knowledge gained at other facilities. DPRA’s success in this area was recognized recently by the U.S. Postal Service who selected DPRA as a sole source provider of auditing skills training to all environmental staff nationwide.  The USPS also selected DPRA to perform quality control audits to evaluate the effectiveness of their audit programs. DPRA was selected over the other Postal Service national contractors based on the quality our performance conducting facility audits and credibility among USPS staff.

The DPRA approach involves providing a high level of service with an understanding of project objectives and the importance of good communication. DPRA tailors the scope of the audit including period of review, facility operations, and the audit criteria (applicable federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations) to the needs of each client. DPRA provides an audit approach that is objective, independent, and competent in accordance with general auditing principles. In addition, DPRA exercises due professional care in all aspects of the project.

DPRA’s general compliance audit process involves the following steps:

  • Identification of the audit criteria (applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations);
  • Collection of audit evidence (through pre-site visit research, document review, interviews, and visual observations);
  • Evaluation of audit evidence against the audit criteria to determine if evidence demonstrates compliance or noncompliance with environmental requirements and standards; and
  • Drafting of noncompliance findings and recommended corrective actions.

DPRA’s article titled “The Art of the Audit” provides more detailed information regarding our audit approach.
