In 2005, DPRA acquired ZymaX Forensics, Inc., noted experts in the identification and fingerprinting of refined petroleum, crude oil, and other organic and inorganic compounds in the environment. This merger capped DPRA's long-standing involvement in environmental and geochemistry consulting, and gave Zymax clients uninterrupted service backed by DPRA's expertise in environmental forensics.

Through the acquisition of ZymaX Forensics, DPRA augmented its existing in-house geochemistry resources and gained additional support for the environmental forensics work conducted by the firm's St. Paul, Minnesota,  and San Marcos, California, offices. Those offices provide superior consultation services, litigation support, and expert witness testimony to clients.

At the state-of-the-art ZymaX laboratory in San Luis Obispo, California, DRPA conducts a wide variety of tests including, but not limited to, hydrocarbon fuel identification, gas geochemistry, and isotope analyses.
  
DPRA's laboratory director, Dr. Shan-Tan Lu, is a world-renowned petroleum geologist and geochemist with over 30 years of experience.  Dr. Lu manages DPRA's petroleum geochemistry and isotope analyses, and has conducted extensive research and development of analytical methodologies for petroleum exploration and production.

Our expert Laboratory Science team has developed or modified geochemical analyses that allow us to:

• identify the types of product which have been released
• distinguish between similar products from different sources
• estimate the mixing ratios of different products
• estimate the age of the product
• assign probable responsibility for source(s) of the contamination
