Forensic Investigation of Petroleum Plume and Litigation Support, Port of Los Angeles (POLA), California.

DPRA was retained by POLA to forensically evaluate site conditions, determine the feasibility of tracing components of the commingled, tidally influenced contaminant plume to specific time periods and/or responsible parties, and compile a comprehensive tabular and spatial database of available historical reports. DPRA’s geographical information system (GIS) team utilized this database to perform two, three, and four dimensional analyses and custom visualizations as part of the ongoing forensic investigation and litigation.

Brownfield Redevelopment Environmental Information System (BREIS), National City, California.

DPRA was commissioned by the CDC and funded by an EPA Brownfield Grant to develop a Brownfield Redevelopment Environmental Information System (BREIS) that would allow easy access to environmental and redevelopment-related information as an aid to redevelopment within its jurisdiction. DPRA’s Geographic Information System (GIS) team compiled all available redevelopment information and constructed the BREIS – a website portal which requires no specialized software or training (www.nationalcitybreis.org).

Natural Resource Damage Litigation Support for State of New Jersey.

A major oil company and its predecessors operated two oil refineries in  New Jersey since the 1800’s.  The State of New Jersey filed suit against the oil company in 2007 seeking compensation for natural resource damages.  DPRA was retained by counsel working for the State to review hundreds of documents produced during the discovery phase. DPRA also acted as the data “gate keeper” for all of the experts involved with this case and provided each expert with defined data queries, tables, and figures to help convey their respective opinions. DPRA remains involved in this project as the case moves toward trial.
