DPRA proposes two service offerings under this SIN area: Strategic Planning and Change Management. The following is a brief description of each service and an explanation of how it supports Management, Organizational, and Business Improvement Services.

Strategic Planning

Strategic planning is a process that enables members of an organization to envision their future and develop the procedures and operations that are needed to achieve that future. This future vision provides the impetus and direction in which the organization should move.

The strategic planning process includes the following key elements: a shared vision, strong and consistent leadership, broad community involvement, practical direction and action plans, and solid communications and education.

DPRA has assisted over 100 communities and organizations in developing strategic plans. We help our clients articulate the goals and aspirations of all stakeholders, describing a desired future which is achievable, comprehensive, and shared. Our approach is specifically tailored to the individual needs and the unique challenges faced by our clients.

Because leadership is essential to the strategic planning process, DPRA will help a community or organization assume the responsibility for implementing the strategic plan. We help our clients involve stakeholders in developing the plan to ensure ownership and, ultimately, implementation. We also help develop specific action plans which describe practical steps that can be taken by the organization to attain the future defined in the strategic plan.

Consensus, confidence, and trust are impossible to achieve when stakeholders are uninformed or misinformed. Thus, DPRA also assures that the strategic planning process is complemented by a comprehensive communications and awareness strategy.

Our strategic planning clients include the Government of the Northwest Territories; Canadian Department of Resource, Wildlife and Economic Development; City of Yellowknife, Canada; Citizenship and Immigration Canada; and City of Burlington, Canada.

Change Management

Change management consultation involves helping an organization better understand and manage changes (e.g. in organizational structure, employee classification, work roles and responsibilities, relationships to other agencies) that are being instituted within a work environment.

DPRA’s consultation process provides information, advice, and support during the period of change, enabling organizations to implement change smoothly and effectively. We help organizations evaluate changes and their potential impacts on management and employees, as well as help develop response initiatives and strategies to effectively address change and move the organization forward.

DPRA also provides change management training that gives public and private sector organizations the tools and techniques needed to implement organizational change. Training benefits managers and staff by helping them understand the change process (i.e., what is meant by “change,” how to identify the impacts of change, and the typical human response to change).

Our training addresses the particular circumstances of the organization undergoing change, including identifying the specific changes the organization faces, developing methods for dealing with these changes, and turning the changes into opportunities.

Clients we have helped with change management include the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Fred Deeley Imports Ltd./Harley-Davidson Canada, Government of Northwest Territories Canada, Department of National Defense Canada, and Ontario Energy Board.
